The Dog Woman

by Max Hurlock
(Shirley, Long Island, NY)

This is probably one of the most bizarre ghost stories you'll ever hear But I assure you it happened.

A few years ago, it was fall, and I was walking down a shady tree lined path near an open field. I turned my head and saw a white dog standing in the field a few feet away from me.

At first I was scared because I had bad experiences with dogs early in my life but then I noticed it wasn't attacking and seemed friendly so I started to approach it, and something really strange happened.

It seemed to grow and change and when I looked at it after it was done changing I saw it was a ghostly woman, and when I say ghostly I mean ghostly.

Think of those ghosts from the old haunted house movies from the fifties and early sixties. She had pale skin and was wearing a long white robe or veil, and she was smiling at me.

I don't remember what color hair she had but I remember it was long and flowing. Well that was more than I could handle. I ran away and looked back once. And when I looked back there was only that white dog sitting there.

This was somewhere around King's Park on Long Island, and I never went back.
