Loving Long Island Newsletter -- Summer is not over...

August 30, 2007

Hi Everyone,

Repeat after me: "Summer is not over, summer is not over, summer is not over," and everything will be fine.

Okay, so maybe we should face reality and embrace Labor Day weekend. After all, it is a 3 day holiday (my condolences to those working this weekend) and a great way to do some of the things we've been wanting to do all summer long but never found the time for.

Here are my summertime favorites:

Long Island Wine Tasting - This is one of my favorite pastimes and a great way to see Long Island's north fork. The best part is, when you've completed the wine trail you end up in...

Greenport - This very cool maritime village offers everything you could ask for in a day trip. A park on the water. Bar and restaurants everywhere. Boat rides. Shopping. You name it, it's here.

Fire Island - Long Island's best kept secret. If you've never been here you owe it to yourself to check it out. For a relaxing day at the beach I recommend Atlantique or Sailor's Haven. For shopping, bars, restaurants and nightlife you want Ocean Beach. Gender benders will love Cherry Grove, one very cool, very hot town. No matter where you end up on Fire Island you can walk or take a water taxi to visit another community.

The Nautical Mile in Freeport - Bars, restaurants, live music all over the place, gift shops, ice cream, fish markets, and of course, the water, make The Nautical Mile a 1 mile strip of pure fun.

So there you have it. 4 things to do on a 3 day weekend. Better get busy...
