(Long Island)
I took my 6 yr old to see the Sunken Forest on one of the last ferries of the season, they stop running in October.
We love going there and Fire Island is even more beautiful in the fall than in the summer. The tourists are all gone, it's quiet and you feel like you have the entire island to yourself.
There is nothing like it anywhere. Can't wait till next summer!
Editor's note: After Labor Day the Fire Island crowds are gone indeed. To such an extent in fact, that the locals refer to the day after Labor Day as Tumbleweed Tuesday. -Bill
