Sinking Off Atlantique

by Elvis Morales
(Brentwood, Long Island)

I was 13 when I first met beautiful Atlantique and fell in love. Growing up in a below middle class family in Brentwood I never imagined such a place existed.

One summer my friend and I took out a small paddle boat that had been grounded for years, imagine our surprise when we realized it was grounded for a reason.

As we paddled out she sprung a leak and before we knew it we where drifting towards Bay Shore with the boat leaking faster than I could bale. Just as I lost hope and thought of abandoning the boat and swimming back to land, a 14 foot Boston Whaler came up and threw us a line.

When we made it back to the docks we were greeted by a crowed of people that had watched this incredibly embarrassing event. Nevertheless Atlantique, my first great love, was looking over us as she does all who lover her.

Love has its embarrassing moments...
by: Bill Drago

It doesn't matter where you grow up, many Long Islanders have no idea what Fire Island is all about or that it even exists...

I can't imagine a better place to be in a sinking boat than Atlantique. It is one of my favorite places on Fire Island.
