Press Release - 3rd Annual Zan’s National Latke Eating Championship to feature big Eaters on Dec 9th, 2007

Zan’s Deli and the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters, also known as AICE will feature some of America's best picnic-style Competitive Eaters who will travel from as far away as North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania & New Jersey and New York City in order to lay claim to the prestigious title of National Potato Latke Eating Champion.

So far, this contest has crowned champions from Massachusetts and Virginia, but has yet to crown a New York Champ. Long Island Food Warriors and Latke hopefuls, Mike “the Real Skinny” Hoffman who is regarded as a two time Long Island Pizza Eating Champion along with Chris “The American” Schlesinger who is the Long Island Hard Boiled Egg Eating Champ, believe that 2007 will be the year that a NY Champ will be crowned.

However, the road to Latke glory Will be a tough one as this year's battle will feature one of America's top Female Food Warriors, Elizabeth “Rubber Gut” Canady from Bradenton Florida. Ms. Canady recently defeated a tandem of well regarded Japanese Food Warriors and one month later set a two minute Hamburger record where she consumed 15 Hamburgers in only two minutes. “Rubber-Gut” who is the likely favorite in this contest is the 11th Ranked Picnic Style food Warrior in the Nation.

Also competing will be the 18 year old phenom from Charlotte North Carolina, Rich “Big-rig” Brooking who is the South Eastern States Burger Eating Champion and finished fourth amongst a group of elite Food Warriors at a recent National Burger Eating Championship in Memphis, TN. “Big-Rig” Brooking is currently ranked 18th in the Nation. World Pickle Eating Champ and AICE Chairman Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman will emcee the event.

In addition to a National Eating Championship Zan’s will be celebrating Hanukkah and welcomes folks from all faiths to come down and celebrate Hanukkah and enjoy some of Long Island’s best Kosher cuisine. Admission is free and there will be music by DJ Mike Sisco, trivia and other fun activities for kids and adults.

The celebration will be begin at 12:00 noon.
